Compulsory Attendance and Exemptions
- Under compulsory attendance laws, students are required to attend school 90% of the days school is in session.
- For middle school students, they must attend each class 90% of days the specific class is in session to receive credit for the class.
- The 90% rule applies to both excused and unexcused absences.
Exemptions
- Observe a religious high holy day
- Court appearance
- Death of a close family member
- Personal illness
- Medical treatment
If a student is at school any part of the day of a medical appointment, they are considered present for that day regardless of the time they come in or leave.
